Position: Matron
Location: Zomba, Malawi
The University of Malawi invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to fill the following vacant positions at the University. The positions are tenable in various departments of the University, as specified below.
MATRON (1 POSITION) - DIRECTORATE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications and experience requirements:
- Be an Enrolled Nurse.
- Have worked for at least six (6) years in a clinic, with demonstrable counselling experience.
- Have at least six (6) years of experience working with the youth.
- Have vast experience in providing Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) services, family planning services, and youth-friendly health services.
- Demonstrate good communication, counselling, interpersonal and report-writing skills.
- Have the ability to work effectively with youth and other stakeholders in addressing health, welfare and related concerns.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, among other duties:
- Compiling, documenting and handling students' health and welfare issues.
- Providing appropriate counselling and health-related support to students.
- Identifying and reporting hostel faults requiring maintenance.
- Monitoring hostel sanitation, hygiene and general health standards.
- Reporting non-compliance by students in halls of residence.
- Reporting security, health, safety and maintenance issues in halls of residence.
- Liaising with students on health, welfare and other related issues.
- Promoting health education and healthy living among students.
- Maintaining appropriate records relating to student health and welfare.
- Preparing periodic reports on student health, welfare and hostel-related matters.
- Performing any other duties as may reasonably be assigned by the relevant authorities.
