About Us

Ujamaa Pamodzi Africa is a non-governmental organization registered with the Non-Governmental Organizations Board of Malawi and the Council for Non-Governmental Organizations in Malawi. Its mission is to promote health, personal safety and empowerment for women, men, and children. Ujamaa's vision is to have an empowered society free from violence against women and children. In order to realize the mission, the Organization is implementing its interventions in 12 districts across the country. These districts include: Lilongwe, Salima, Dedza, Dowa, Mzimba, Ntcheu, Mangochi, Machinga, Balaka, Zomba, Blantyre, and Kasungu Districts. In Salima district, Ujamaa is evaluating the impact of integrating its evidence based ETT programme and an Early Warning System (EWS) in identifying students at risk of absenteeism and dropout in schools in Salima district.


Job Details


Reporting to: Data Officer


Department: Research, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Accountability (RMEAL)


Duration: Short-term contract


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular visits to assigned schools to collect quantitative and qualitative data, including student attendance records, and intervention activities.
  • Ensure accurate and timely data entry using digital tools.
  • Work closely with field coordinators and research managers to troubleshoot field issues.
  • Uphold ethical standards in data collection, including obtaining informed consent and ensuring confidentiality.
  • Participate in training sessions, refresher workshops, and team debriefs.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Education, IT, Social Sciences, Statistics, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in field-based data collection especially in schools.
  • Familiarity with digital data collection tools (e.g. google‑sheets, Microsoft 365, Kobo Toolbox).

Desirable Skills & Knowledge

  • Fluency in English and relevant local languages.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work in rural school settings.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Prior experience working with school systems or education‑focused programs.
  • Understanding of issues related to school absenteeism and dropout.
  • Basic data analysis skills are an added advantage.
