Position: Parks and Wildlife Assistant

About Department of National Parks and Wildlife

The Department of National Parks and Wildlife operates under the Ministry of Industrialization, Business, Trade and Tourism and is responsible for conserving Malawi’s wildlife and protected areas while promoting sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship.

Job Overview

The Parks and Wildlife Assistant will support conservation efforts through law enforcement, wildlife monitoring, community engagement, and protection of natural resources across various national parks, wildlife reserves, and sanctuaries.

The Role

Conduct patrols and enforce wildlife protection laws
Support conservation and anti-poaching initiatives
Engage communities on environmental and wildlife issues
Assist in tourism and visitor services

Key Responsibilities

Conduct law enforcement and anti-poaching patrols
Collect ecological and wildlife monitoring data
Participate in wildlife crime investigations and problem animal control
Provide environmental education and community outreach
Offer visitor interpretation and tour guiding services
Provide security in protected areas, including entry and exit points
Safeguard departmental property and support conservation operations

Qualifications and Skills

Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) with:
Credit in English and Mathematics
At least one credit in Geography, Agriculture, or Biology

For serving officers:

Minimum of 4 years’ experience in roles such as:
Messenger (Grade P)
Security Guard (Grade P)
Fence Attendant (Grade Q) with Basic Anti-Poaching Certificate (BAP)
Honorary Rangers with MSCE and BAP are encouraged to apply
