Malawi Assemblies of God University (MAGU) is a faith-based institution of higher learning established in 2013 and accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). MAGU invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to serve as Vice Chancellor, the University’s Chief Executive Officer and Academic Head, reporting directly to the University Council.
The Vice Chancellor will provide strategic leadership, academic direction, administrative oversight, and overall stewardship of the University’s mission, vision, and values. This role requires a dynamic, visionary leader capable of driving institutional growth, fostering a high-performance culture, and ensuring excellence across teaching, research, innovation, and community engagement.
Key Responsibilities
1. Governance and Strategic Leadership
- Provide overall strategic direction and leadership, ensuring effective implementation of the University’s vision, mission, strategic plan, and core values.
- Advise the University Council on policy, governance, finance, institutional performance, and long-term strategic development.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, accreditation requirements, and internal policies.
- Promote ethical leadership, accountability, transparency, and effective institutional governance.
- Foster a strong institutional culture grounded in Christian values, excellence, and innovation.
2. Resource Stewardship
- Oversee optimal allocation and utilization of human, financial, and physical resources to support sustainable institutional growth.
- Ensure sound financial management, budgetary control, and long-term financial sustainability.
- Lead resource mobilization initiatives, including fundraising, partnerships, donor engagement, and income-generating activities.
- Strengthen infrastructure development and ensure maintenance of quality learning environments.
3. Academic Excellence, Quality Assurance and Innovation
- Provide academic leadership that promotes high standards in teaching, learning, program development, and curriculum innovation.
- Ensure adherence to academic quality assurance systems, NCHE standards, and global best practices.
- Foster the expansion of academic programs aligned to national needs, market demand, and global relevance.
- Champion innovative pedagogies, digital transformation, and continuous improvement in academic delivery.
4. Research, Innovation and Impact
Promote a vibrant research culture that drives knowledge creation, innovation, and national development.
Strengthen research governance, ethics, publications, and dissemination of scholarly outputs.
Facilitate research partnerships, grants acquisition, and collaborative networks locally and internationally.
Support applied research and innovation initiatives that address community and national challenges.
5. National Impact, External Relations and Institutional Visibility
- Position MAGU as a leading contributor to national development through education, research, policy engagement, and community outreach.
- Build strong strategic partnerships with government, industry, churches, civil society, international institutions, and development partners.
- Enhance the University’s visibility, reputation, and stakeholder engagement at national and global levels.
- Represent the University in national, regional, and international forums.
- 6. Human Resources Management and Organizational Development
- Foster a high-performance, values-based organizational culture.
- Provide leadership in recruitment, development, motivation, and retention of staff.
- Promote staff welfare, continuous professional development, and effective performance management systems.
- Encourage collaboration, teamwork, innovation, and ethical conduct across the University.
Qualifications And Experience
The ideal candidate must possess:
- A PhD from an NCHE-recognized institution.
- At least 10 years of senior management experience in a reputable higher education institution.
- A strong academic and research track record, including publications and scholarly contributions.
- Demonstrated ability to lead institutional transformation and manage multidisciplinary teams.
- Proven understanding of university governance, quality assurance systems, and research management.
- Strong business acumen, resource mobilization experience, and sound project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, tact and diplomatic skills.
- High levels of integrity, accountability, innovation, and attention to detail.
- A committed and practicing Christian, aligned with the values of the Assemblies of God.
Terms Of Engagement
The successful candidate will be offered:
- A four-year contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
