Position: Production Manager 


Habitat for Humanity Malawi has established Timange EcoBuild Limited, a for-profit social enterprise focused on the production of sustainable building materials and property development. The enterprise currently operates a stabilized soil and concrete block production facility based in Machinjiri, Blantyre.

Habitat For Humanity Malawi on behalf of Timange EcoBuild Limited is inviting applications for the position of Production Manager,  as detailed below:


PRODUCTION MANAGER


Department: Production


Location: Blantyre – Machinjiri


Reports To:   Managing Director


Job Summary:

  • The Production Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership, coordination, and optimization of production operations at TIMANGE ECOBUILD LTD’s production facility. This includes overseeing the production of Stabilized Soil Bricks (SSBs), Pavers and Cement Blocks, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and environmental standards, and driving operational excellence. The role requires a strategic thinker with strong technical understanding and leadership capabilities to manage people, processes, and performance in alignment with the company’s mission of delivering sustainable and affordable building materials.
  • Supervises: Production Supervisor, Quality and Safety Officer, Sales and Marketing Officer, Finance and Administration

Main Responsibilities:


Strategic & Corporate Leadership

  1. Provide overall leadership and direction for TIMANGE ECOBUILD LTD in line with Board-approved strategies, policies, and objectives.
  2. Translate Board decisions into operational plans, targets, and performance indicators.
  3. Prepare and present operational, financial, and performance reports to the Timange Board.

  • Production & Operations Management

  1. Oversee all production operations for SSBs, pavers, and cement blocks to ensure efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  2. Approve production plans, output targets, and operational schedules.
  1. Ensure optimal utilization of plant machinery, labor, and raw materials.

  • Financial Oversight & Resource Management

  1. Provide overall oversight of financial performance in collaboration with the Finance & Administration.
  2. Review and approve budgets, expenditure controls, and cost optimization measures.
  3. Ensure financial sustainability through efficient resource allocation and waste minimization.

  • Quality Assurance & Compliance

  1. Ensure production processes comply with applicable technical standards and environmental regulations.
  2. Provide technical leadership in implementing the Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).
  3. Lead implementation of product quality standards for SSBs, pavers, and cement blocks.

  • Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  1. Promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety standards by  conducting regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  2. Lead emergency preparedness and response initiatives.

  • Human Resources, Leadership & Capacity Development

  1. Lead, supervise, and appraise senior staff, including the Finance & Administration Manager and Production Supervisor.
  2. Promote a performance-driven culture through clear targets, coaching, and accountability.
  3. Support skills development, training, and mentorship of staff, youth, and artisans in sustainable construction practices.

  • Market Alignment & Business Development Support

  1. Coordinate with marketing and sales functions to align production capacity with market demand.
  2. Support product development, pricing strategies, and market expansion initiatives.
  3. Represent TIMANGE ECOBUILD LTD in external engagements, partnerships, and stakeholder forums.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a construction field, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing or construction materials production environment, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Experience with Hydraform or similar block-making machinery is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of sustainable construction practices and materials is highly desirable

Experience Required:

  • Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially in SSB and concrete block production.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in production planning, quality control, and operational optimization
