Position: Maternal And Neonatal Nurse
Reporting to: Matron
Duty Stations: Kanjedza and Zomba
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and implement high-quality maternal and neonatal nursing care.
- Apply evidence-based practices to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes.
- Document and maintain accurate maternal and neonatal nursing care records.
- Compile and share reports and handover notes with relevant healthcare workers.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to meet patient needs.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) standards.
- Participate in maternal and neonatal audits within the department.
Key Performance Indicators
- Incidence rates of neonatal complications (e.g. infections, Hypoxic-Ischaemic Encephalopathy).
- Success rate in nursing procedures such as cannulation and feeding tube insertion.
- Admission and readmission rates into the Neonatal High Dependency Unit (HDU).
- Maternal and neonatal mortality rates.
- Rate of incomplete or inaccurate maternal and neonatal documentation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery with at least 3 years’ experience working in a Neonatal Unit.
- Bachelor of Science in Child Health Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Neonatal Health will be an added advantage.
