The Liechtenstein REED Scholarship 2026

The Liechtenstein REED Scholarship 2026 is now open for applications at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences for students pursuing a Master of Science in Sustainable Energy. This prestigious scholarship is offered by the Liechtenstein Institute for Strategic Development with support from the Liechtenstein Government's international development programme. 

About the Scholarship

The scholarship aims to develop the next generation of African experts in renewable energy and support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goal #7: Affordable and Clean Energy for All. Successful candidates will receive financial support for living expenses while completing their MSc studies. 

Who Can Apply?

Applicants are selected based on:

  • Financial need 
  • Academic excellence 
  • Commitment to community renewable energy access 
  • Contribution to cultural and social diversity goals 
  • Meeting the admission requirements for the MSc in Sustainable Energy programme at MUBAS. 

Required Documents

  • Completed scholarship application form (available from the MUBAS Admissions Office) 
  • Two recommendation letters from university professors, supervisors, and/or employers 
  • A motivation letter (maximum 4 pages or 1,600 words) explaining: 
  1. Your background 
  2. Why the scholarship is important to you 
  3. Your academic and career goals 
  4. Why you chose the MSc programme 
  5. How renewable energy can contribute to sustainable energy access in communities 
  • Proof of financial need, including as many of the following as possible: 
  1. Certified copy of latest tax return or payslip 
  2. Certified bank statements for the past six months 
  3. Parents' tax return (if unemployed) 
  4. Other supporting documentation from local authorities.

Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship covers living expenses such as:

  • Accommodation
  • Food Other
  • education-related expenses

The award is renewable each term based on academic performance and fulfilment of scholarship requirements. 

Scholarship Requirements for Awardees

  • Complete all mandatory courses on time 
  • Maintain good grades and high academic performance 
  • Submit semester academic progress reports 
  • Present a final report on experiences and academic achievements.
