The University of Manchester is offering Equity and Merit Scholarships to academically excellent students from selected African countries, including Malawi, who demonstrate the potential to contribute to sustainable development in their communities and home countries.

WHAT THE SCHOLARSHIP COVERS

The scholarship provides:

1. Full tuition fees
2. Return international airfares
3. Living expenses
4. Visa costs

KEY ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

1. Be a resident citizen of Malawi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda or Zimbabwe.
2. Hold a Bachelor's degree from a recognised institution with the required academic grade.
3. Have at least 2 years of professional experience related to the chosen field of study. Unpaid internships and voluntary work do not count.
4. Demonstrate commitment to returning home and making a positive impact in their country.
5. Clearly explain how studying at Manchester will benefit their career and wider community.
6. Must not have previously studied outside Africa. Training of six months or less does not count.

APPLICATION TIMELINE

1–31 August 2026: Scholarship applications open

September 2026: Eligibility review

1 October–31 October 2026: Eligible applicants invited to apply for their chosen Master's course

30 November 2026: Deadline to submit English language qualification

November 2026–May 2027: Applications assessed

June 2027: Scholarship decisions announced

September 2027: Academic year begins
