Position: Field Officers (24 Positions)

Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) Malawi is inviting applications from local Malawian candidates for 24 Field Officer positions under the SCALE Project.

The successful candidates will report to the Field Manager and support a research project evaluating the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL)-Informed Remediation Programme in Malawi. The project, implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and partners, seeks to assess the effectiveness of TaRL for learners in Standards 3–4 and generate evidence to support nationwide implementation.

The positions are based in Karonga and Machinga, with an expected start date of September 2026 and a contract duration of 1.5 months.

Key requirements:

1. Diploma or higher qualification in Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.
2. At least 1 year of experience in data collection.
3. Excellent verbal communication skills and fluency in local languages spoken in the study areas.
4. Experience working with and handling children.
5. Good understanding of safeguarding and human subjects protection requirements.
6. Well-organized, detail-oriented, and an excellent listener.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
8. Ability to work independently under supervision and as part of a team.
9. Ability to work comfortably within the study districts.

Preferred:

1. Candidates from Karonga or Machinga districts.
2. Previous experience working with children.

Duties:

1. Administer standardized literacy and numeracy assessments to sampled learners.
2. Collect and record data electronically using SurveyCTO on tablets.
3. Conduct classroom and school observations.
4. Liaise with head teachers and school administrators.
5. Track and locate sampled learners, teachers, and respondents.
6. Verify learner and school identification details.
7. Maintain high standards of data quality and integrity.
8. Manage field equipment and troubleshoot basic technical issues.
9. Participate in daily field debriefings and report challenges.
10. Adhere to research ethics, confidentiality, child safeguarding, and consent procedures.
11. Perform other field duties as assigned by the Field Managers and Research Associate.
