Position: Agronomist

Location: Lilongwe / Mchinji, Malawi

About the Role

Est.Brothers Ltd is a family-owned company operating across agribusiness, horticulture, sustainable farming, and import/export. As our operations grow, we are looking for a knowledgeable, practical and results-oriented professional to join our team as an Agronomist and contribute to improved productivity and sustainable farming. The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO/MD to develop and implement crop production programmes, manage soil and plant nutrition, oversee pest and disease control, and promote sustainable agricultural practices.

Key requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, Plant Science, Horticulture or a related field.
2. Practical experience in commercial crop production or farm agronomy.
3. Strong knowledge of soil fertility, crop nutrition, pest & disease management and irrigation.
4. Experience in horticultural or commercial crops is highly desirable.
5. Ability to interpret soil and crop data and provide practical solutions.
6. Good computer skills (Microsoft Excel and agricultural systems).
7. Valid driving licence would be advantageous.
8. Must be practical, proactive, and able to translate technical agronomic knowledge into actions that improve productivity and profitability.
9. Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, resilience, and a sustainability-focused mindset.

Key Responsibilities

Crop Production & Agronomy

1. Develop and implement crop production programmes.
2. Recommend seed varieties, planting methods and production techniques.
3. Monitor crop development and identify yield and quality risks.
4. Support Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and maintain crop calendars.

Soil & Plant Nutrition

1. Coordinate soil sampling and testing programmes.
2. Interpret results and recommend fertiliser and nutrition plans.
3. Monitor soil fertility and promote efficient input use.

Pest, Disease & Weed Management

1. Scout fields and identify crop health problems.
2. Develop and implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes.
3. Monitor and evaluate agrochemical use.

Irrigation & Water Management

1. Monitor crop water requirements and irrigation.
2. Improve water-use efficiency and manage water-stress risks.

Data, Reporting & Sustainability

1. Maintain accurate agronomic records and reports.
2. Promote sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
3. Support compliance with agricultural and food-safety standards.
